Principal News and Notes

As we partner together in the education of our students, I will communicate with you in many different ways:  through emails, the Communicator, our website, through friendly conversation in the hallway or on the blacktop, and through formal meetings and presentations.  This bulletin also enables me to share my ideas, my plans and my commitment to this partnership.  This week, I’m sharing with you some of my TOP FIVES.

Top 5 Priority Projects

Implement Successful Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program

The TK program will enable us to build enrollment and provide sustainability for the school.  The TK will be located in the current library and the library will be relocated to Room A.  This location for TK is ideal because it is close to the bathrooms and the playground structure.  Additional security measures will be added to secure both the TK and Kindergarten areas. We are currently in the process of interviewing candidates for the TK Teacher and exploring curriculum materials.

Increase Enrollment

A healthy enrollment ensures affordable tuition rates for all families.  We are increasing our marketing efforts and working to build a positive presence in the community.  Our families continue to be our best marketers, so please share the good news of St. Hedwig.  A few things we are doing now:  increasing our signage, hosting a Visitor’s Day (March 10), participating in Seal Beach Run (April 9), providing Kindergarten Readiness presentations at local preschools, and hosting a table outside St. Anne’s Mass (March 6).  If you have more ideas, please share them with us.

Build Community

The more we come together to collaborate and to celebrate, to talk and listen, to share and laugh, the stronger we become.  I will be working with our Parent Association to provide more community events, such as Father/Daughter dance and Mother/Son dance.  Stay tuned for more information regarding the Seal Beach Run on April 9.

As principal, I will be calling round-table discussions with various shareholders in an effort to ensure our school programs continue to meet the needs of our students and provide a strong academic and spiritual foundation.

Integrate Technology
We need MORE Technology in our classrooms. We need to evaluate the 1:1 program we implemented in our 8th grade this year and make it better.  We need to expand it.   Another essential component to integrating technology into any curriculum is Professional Development.  We will be providing additional opportunities for our teachers to learn new ways to utilize technology in the classroom.
