This week is Red Ribbon Week and so many activities are underway to encourage and remind students to stay healthy and drug free!

On Friday, October 21st, the student body gathered together in Quinn Hall to celebrate all the successes of the Fall sports teams. Mrs. Vasquez and the cheerleaders really put on a show complete with a military theme. The students were very excited and had an absolute blast!

Autumnfest, the annual parish festival, was a huge success! Parish and school families joined forces to create a memorable 3-day event filled with fun, food, and fellowship.  With a wide variety of rides for all ages, plentiful game booths to enjoy, live entertainment performed on the main stage, and delicious food to choose from, our faith-filled community created lasting memories during this Fall extravaganza.

Saint Hedwig School's Friendship Week was filled with friends, laughs, and a lot of love. Students in grades 1 - 8 met their friendship partners and participated in many wonderful events this week. Thank you to student council for helping us all create many lasting memories!

On Sept. 12th, the 10th Annual John R. Russell Golf Classic was in full swing. St. Hedwig parents, alumni, and community supporters gathered together for a day on the golf course followed by an evening of fun. The After Party Cocktail Hour kicked off a lovely evening that included a banquet dinner, raffle prizes, and auction items galore. St. Hedwig community members had a blast participating in a decade old tradition that raises money for the school.

This year, Saint Hedwig School kicked off a new summer reading program based on the Catholic Church’s Social Justice Themes: Care for God’s Creation, Solidarity, Call to Family, and Human Dignity. The Church's social teaching is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. Students read one assigned book in their social justice theme. Upon returning to school in August, students began completing assignments across the curriculum based on the books they read.

In third grade, students were required to read the book,Who Was Martin Luther King Jr.? This third grade chapter book chronicles the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the challenges he faced as an African American civil rights leader. This book was chosen because it ties in beautifully in to the third and fourth grade social justice theme of solidarity.

SHS Teachers and Staff started the school year by participating in an amazing service project. They boarded the "Do Good Bus" and were taken to a mystery location where they spent the day helping The Good+ Foundation in Los Angeles.
